And that's when it occurred to me...What was the one thing all those people making their own videos and setting them to our songs had no access to?

Footage. It was so simple. Pure raw footage of the band. That's what all those people needed to really make cool videos. All they needed was footage...and we had a ton of it.

So welcome to the NEW Counting Crows Download Page. You can still come here and download the mp3's of '1492' and 'When I Dream of Michelangelo' but now you're going to get something extra. Beginning today, you're going to get raw footage of the band recording and playing the songs live. So you can do whatever you want with it. Make a video by just editing together the stuff we give you. Make up your own plot, act it out your self or with your friends and then insert the band footage into just like we do when we make OUR videos. On February 26, the ever-effervescent psych-pop band Sunny Day Sets Fire will release the Stranger / Remix EP (IAMSOUND) featuring remixes by CSS, XXXChange from Spank Rock, Diplo and The Cool Kids.  The main track, "Stranger," is a sneak peek from their forthcoming full-length, coming out later this spring, and you can check it out here:

With members hailing from Italy, Hong Kong, the UK and Canada, it's no surprise that the now London-based group's sound is as diverse and ecclectic as it is.  Their music is a refreshing take on psychedelic and experimental pop --  colorful, inventive and yet still catchy enough for everyone to enjoy. 

With an eye firmly focused on the soaring beauty of classic pop moments, the music of Sunny Day Sets Fire reflects their shared loves – 60’s psych, the Beach Boys, classic Sun rock ‘n’ roll and far beyond.  Be on the lookout for the band in New York, Los Angeles, and at SXSW.

Nanking, the THINKfilm documentary about the Japanese invasion of Nanking, China duringn World War II, opens around the country this month in selected theaters (listed below.) In December, the film premiered in NY at the NY Film Forum.

The events of the film are told through deeply moving interviews with Chinese survivors, archival footage, and chilling testimonies of Japanese soldiers, interwoven with staged readings of the Westerners’ letters and diaries as performed by Woody Harrelson, Mariel Hemingway, Jurgen Prochnow, and Stephen Dorff, among others.

Lou Reed has been known to be intensely moved by historical and international events and conflicts. Just recently, Reed composed and recorded two brand new songs -- “Gravity” and “Safety Zone” -- both inspired by the soon-to-be released film NANKING--a powerful and relevant documentary that tells the story of the Japanese invasion of Nanking, China, in the early days of World War II. It is an emotional reminder of the heartbreaking toll that war takes on the innocent, and a testament to the courage and conviction of a few individuals determined to act in the face of evil.

Presented by THINKfilm, directed by the Academy-Award-winning team of Bill Guttentag and Dan Sturman and marking the producing debut of AOL Vice Chairman Emeritus Ted Leonsis, Nanking premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2007 and was the winner of the 2007 Sundance Documentary Editing Award. The film will be released on December 12 in New York City at The Film Forum followed by a national release in January 2008.

The release date for the full collection of songs titled V is for Vagina is Oct. 30, and the scheduled unveiling of several new pieces and garments, available only at puscifer.com, is Sept. 27, the birthday of Maynard’s Yorkie and sidekick, Miho (also rumored to be an alias.)

Monty Are I are proud to unveil their video for "Between The Sheets," the first single off their Stolen Transmission debut, Wall of People.

The video was done entirely by the band, from beginning to end, last December over two freezing cold Rhode Island nights. They started by scheduling two big holiday shows in their home state and personally assembled a stage, rigged up lighting, and set up the sound for what would become the live concert footage included in the video. They wanted to make sure their most loyal and enthusiastic fans would be part of one of their biggest milestones as a band.

Over the course of the next week, the band conceived a concrete idea for the the video and enlisted friend Chris Faulisi to help them start turning their vision into a "reel" reality.

onty Are I filmed the video at some of their favorite spots in their hometown of Providence. The video features cameos from the band's family and friends, making it very near and dear to their hearts.

After the filming was over, Justin Muir (drums, sampling) spent the next couple weeks editing the video in Final Cut Pro on his laptop. With extremely limited amounts of time, money and resources, Monty Are I managed to accomplish something they are really excited to finally show the whole world. Enjoy!

Schoolyard Heroes will Eff Your Sh*t Up

Abominations out on Stolen Transmission on September 18

Don't be afraid, embrace the inevitable end, because as Abomination proves, death can be one badass dance party.

Schoolyard Heroes are NOT for the faint at heart. They're a far cry from the guyliner-smudged, wallowing-in-self-pity emo bands you've been drowned by for the past two years. "We need to go out and destroy everything that is wrong with music right now" announces towering bassist Jonah Bergman. Schoolyard Heroes aren't here to save the day, but, as he describes, they "would like to fuck shit up."

The foundations of this wonderfully weird and wild quartet were first laid in 1999 in a high school in Seattle, WA. Jonah Bergman and Ryann Donnelly became fast friends and very soon afterwards, teamed up with guitarist Steve Bonnell, before completing the line up a year later with the addition of drummer Brian Turner. They toured relentlessly with the likes of Bayside, The Fall Of Troy, Action Action and Vendetta Red, winning fans everywhere they went with their explosive live shows. The band finally found a home in 2007 with Stolen Transmission (The Horrors, Permanent Me, The Photo Atlas.) Just in the past year alone, Schoolyard Heroes has played SXSW, Bamboozle and Bamboozle Left.

This fall, Schoolyard Heroes arrive fully charged and armed with an album to blow your brains out of your ears. Brace yourself for their mighty ST debut, Abominations. Produced by John Goodmanson (Blonde Redhead, The Gossip, Bikini Kill,) the record is both an ambitious and impressive attempt at capturing the horrific parts of human nature with a heavy apocalyptic theme soaking each song like a bloody stain.

"We've always used the horror theme and violent dark imagery as the medium to tell the story in our songs," explains Ryann. "We look at the shitty, gnarly parts of life and instead of dwelling on these dark situations, we celebrate them," adds Jonah. "Instead of being bummed out, we dance!"

There's quite an uproar surrounding Calvin Harris' UK contest "Merrymaking at Your Place" where Calvin is attempting to set a new world record for the most house parties happening simultaneously across the country than ever before. On the evening of the 18th of August Calvin has invited his fans to hold their own Calvin Harris-inspired house parties and Calvin himself will take part in the festivities, embarking on a party crawl and ending his evening playing an acoustic set at the best house party of the night (the winner also gets £1500 in prize money.)

The contest has caused an absolute media frenzy and controversial debates in the UK. National BBC news ran the story and both national broadsheets 'The Times' and 'The Telegraph' have run substantial sized articles on the contest Ñ the story even made the front page of ABC news online in the US.

As a result of all of this hoopla, Calvin was asked to issue a guide on how to party responsibly, and we have included that video here for your viewing and posting pleasure. Pass it on...and party responsibly out there, kids:

"Hello there, well alot has been made of my attempt to get into the record books with my amazing party extravaganza (that's what i'm calling it nowadays) on August 18th, including various sections of the media outing me as a 'hate figure for parents' which i was trying to keep a secret as i know i have a huge parental fanbase.

That aside, it was suggested that i provide a helpful video blog to set out some key points you should remember when planning your party.

So in order to do this, i nicked my Dad's car, and during my joyride* i took some time out to explain how to party in a responsible manner.

However, i forgot all of the main points bar one, and ended up rambling for about 4 minutes.

BENZOS' SECOND ALBUM, BRANCHES, IN STORES AUGUST 7th

New York-based quartet Benzos are releasing their second album, Branches, August 7th on Stinky Records. Branches combines the melodic allure of Doves, the sprawling dynamics of Explosions In the Sky and the minimalist yet intense complexity of Aphex Twin, to develop a unique blend of ambient, emotionally resonant guitar and synth instrumentation, "mashed up" with tight, bottom-heavy, intensely funky rhythm section grooves.

They've recently wowed 10- 15,000 capacity arena audiences opening up for artists such as Faithless and Groove Armada.

Calvin Harris is making his mark on 2007 in style -- "Disco disappeared, didn't it? Everyone got sick of it. Now I'm reviving it, with space goggles, or something."

"The song titles say it all," he explains. "My tunes aren't supposed to invoke deep thought within people; they're just to get you dancing. But musically it is for the brain - it's not music for stupid people. I take great pride in my productions. It's not knocked out in a few seconds."
